A Trip to the Grocery Store!

So, this is Janet. One of the store managers at our local Smith's Food and Drug. She courageously accepted the challenge of entertaining our brood of enthusiastic preschoolers on our second field trip of the year. It was fantastic!

The kids were thrilled to be admitted into the deepest, darkest center of the Smith's universe to see how the whole thing goes down.

Boy were they surprised! They had never really thought about how the food actually GETS to the stores or OUT onto the shelves. It never occured to them that a FREEZER could be as GIGANTIC as a whole entire ROOM!

Well, NOW they know!

They know that it is those big semi trucks, that they see on the free way, that are full of food and other products, travelling to get the goods into the stores.

They know that when this big door opens up, the semi truck will back up onto the moving landing dock and then the workers will empty the stuff out of the truck onto the pallets.

It was all so very cool to see.

But the best part? The part that had the kids squealing and rolling around on the cold concrete floor? Well, none other than the AMAZING MILK FRIDGE!!!!!!

Holy cow (no pun intended)! I would love to see these kids at Disneyland. They were soooo thrilled about this fridge, I can't even imagine what Disneyland must be like?!?

Well, after we adequately frightened any unknowing shopper who was trying to purchase milk, Janet decided we needed to go back into the main part of the store. Not for too long though. Just long enough to walk through the produce (and pick some apples to take back to the school) and over to the BAKERY!!!!

Can an OVEN really be as big as a room too???

Well yes it can, but we will not be going inside the oven kids!

How about a cookie instead?

Or an amazing birthday cake for the birthday boy?

And perhaps a delicious spread of meats and cheeses to enjoy back at the preschool?

My goodness! Were we spoiled rotten or what??? Thanks to everyone who came to help and a HUGE thanks to Janet and everyone else at our favorite grocery store, SMITH'S!

BROWN DAY!

Some snapshots of Brown Day Show and Tell!

When we "celebrate" a color day at preschool, one thing I like the children to do is to order the colors, from darkest to lightest. I like that they need to use their brains a little bit to try and distinguish. We use my old Montessori color tiles to make the "graph" and the children place their item in the spot they think it fits best. As you can see from our photo, some of our little ones are still learning the concept, but they will get there.

Today was BROWN day! I can't wait until next month to find out what new color we will explore?!?!?!
P.S. Can you tell I FINALLY got a new camera???!!!! Now I just need to learn the settings. Grrrrr.

ORANGE DAY!

I realize these are not the greatest pictures but, a bad picture is better than no picture, right!?!

This was our ORANGE Day at preschool.

I love incorporating pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns into the mix! Of course, they are the PERFECT color for Orange Day:)

The kids sure enjoyed "carving" their jack-o-lantern faces.

And smiling like their their new orange friends.

Isn't the creativity great?!

Nothing better than a toothy grin on an ALL ORANGE DAY. . .

perfect pictures or not!

SHAPE BATS!

I really love to turn traditional shapes into these fun loving bats each year.

It never gets old. Just look closely at those two little circle eyes and the little squiggly lined mouth! Why is it that when a three-year-old makes two circles and a squiggly line, it is all of a sudden ADORABLE?

I love that he wanted to hold his upside down because that is how bats sleep.

He wanted a greeeeeeen bat:)

Diamond wings? Or triangles?

Doesn't really matter.

They are SCARY shape bats and they are as cute as their creators!

At the FIRE STATION!

We had such an enjoyable time touring the Evanston City Fire Station! The children were all really fabulous for their very first field trip of our preschool year. We had many moms on deck ready for anything, but really, the moms and I had just as much fun as the kids. Such well behaved little sweeties!

I was impressed that they were able to sit and listen to Fire Fighter Overy's detailed presentation about fire safety. They were so engaged and so fascinated with all the fire fighter gear and tools. The main points our fire fighter wanted to get across to our students were; never play with fire and if you are ever trapped in a house fire, don't panic and don't be afraid of the fire fighter. These preschoolers certainly know their stuff now!
Fire Fighters are so strong and so smart, they have found ways to rescue even the largest of unconscious adults. Luckily, tiny Jack volunteered to demonstrate letting us "grown up" moms off the hook:)

Each child got a chance to try on some of the gear themselves!
The best part though, was seeing the ins and outs of the REAL fire trucks! I think we have some future fire fighters on our hands!

Thanks to everyone who came and helped make this such a memorable field trip!

It's Beginning to Look a LOT Like PRESCHOOL!

This group of preschool students is one of the LIVELIEST I have had! A lot of strong personalities, a lot of FUN! I have been noticing some very sweet gestures and acts of kindness as we have been learning to get along and navigate our new surroundings together.

It is always fun to spend time working on a project with a friend.

Or tackle a difficult task all on his own.

I love to see imaginary friends come to preschool for an impromptu tea party.

Or when one of these cuties notices I am taking pictures and strikes the perfect pose!

More friends for tea!

And my FAVORITE of all, the day I caught the ENTIRE class playing happily together with two of our color games! What a GREAT group of kids!
